The Basics of Data Movement

Data movement can be broken down into three parts:

  1. Data Delivery
  2. Managed File Transfers
  3. Large File Transfers

The concept behind data movement is simple: communication. At the end of the day, you need to know how each business location performed, any problems that occurred, and have access to any other business information necessary for success. Traditionally, reports were done by branch managers and submitted by the end of the week. While manual reporting gives you a snapshot of your business, the information is outdated by the time it's received, and there's an inevitable delay in problem resolution. Data movement software allows you to receive information exactly when you want it, locate and solve problems almost immediately and gives your managers and team leader the ability to put extra time into their leadership.

Data Delivery

Depending on what business you're in, the information delivered is going to vary to fit your needs best. For example, you may want sales reports, inventory data, field maps, or even software and configuration files. Streamlining the data delivery process allows you to see the state of your company in real time.

Managed File Transfer

If you are looking for a software solution, then your organization most likely has multiple locations. To ensure that your business sites operate as a unit, you must share information between the different system users, business locations, and even with business systems and partners. A data movement software helps to simplify the process of the exchange of information through a secure channel.

Large File Transfer

As a personal example, everyone has, at some point, attempted to send a professional family photo through email only to have a box pop-up saying that the file is too big to send. Even when you click to compress, many times your internet browser will stop responding before the photo even loads. Having a system in place for your business makes it easy to send large files at faster speeds. Since you are sharing within a secure system, the information is protected and readily available through your branded business portal from any location. You can safely send files to anywhere you'd like and share them with anyone who has access to your business portal.

Data movement helps your business streamline the flow of information from your stores to your headquarters giving you more time to put into growing your business. Decisions made from real-time company data are the decisions that lead to an organization's overall success.
